Windom Community Council Minutes – December 14, 2006

Meeting started at 7:10.
Members Present: Chad Evenson, Jacob Berning, Jessica Docken, Renee Dowson, Pat Soulak, Breanne Dalnes, Brita Reitan, Mike Mantooth.
Members Absent: Pat Croal, Mary Peterson, Dave Evans
Others Present: Danielle, Newsletter volunteer, _______, reporter from SW Journal, Jesse Rison, Community Center Director.
Reviewed bylaws to determine that there was a quorum with originally 6 members.
President Soulak gave the President’s Report. She reviewed the goals for 2005-2006 outlined in the Windom Vision 2005, and discussed how the Council had met those goals. She highlighted the importance of attendance at Council meetings, recruiting volunteers for the committees, and getting the newsletter edited, published, and delivered on time.
Brita arrived at 7:20.
The Council conducted 2007 Elections. All Officers were up for re-election. The following were the results of the election.
There were two open seats on the Board of Directors for the Council. Jesse Rison ran, and was unanimously elected to one of the two available seats. One seat remains open after the December meeting.
Jessica Docken was unanimously elected Secretary of the Windom Community Council.
Chad Evenson was unanimously elected Treasurer of the Windom Community Council.
Pat Soulak was elected Vice President of the Windom Community Council.
Renee Dowson was unanimously elected President of the Windom Community Council.
All Officers will serve 2-year terms.
Mike Mantooth arrived at 8:15.
Committee Reports.
LASR-CC
Breanne Dalnes was appointed by the Council to be an alternate community representative to the LASR-CC board, in addition to the existing representatives Mary Ubl, Jacob Berning, and Mary Peterson.
The importance of using the recently adopted plan as a guide in forming our recommendations regarding development proposals was discussed.
Business Association
Jacob and Chad discussed their plan of action to form a business association. They have two or three very interested businesses, and are exploring options to conducted a business association kickoff. It was suggested to bring in a speaker to lure them to the kickoff. The business association committee will work with the newsletter committee to recruit additional advertising for the newsletter.
Communications
The newsletter is completed and ready for delivery. Articles for the Winter newsletter will be due January 15th. The tentative due dates for the year are January 15th, April 1st, July 15th, and November 1st. The Committee expressed the importance of working together to recruit advertising for the newsletter. Pat, Breanne, and Chad volunteered to help recruit advertising.
Festival
The Windom Fall Festival committee needs to re-commence to start planning for next year’s Festival. It was mentioned that Pat Croal and Jesse Rison would be interested joining the Committee. Jessica Evenson may be interested as well.
NRP
Implementation will need to be started.
Treasurer
It was discussed to consider opening a second, high interest bearing account. The Finalized Festival report was presented. It was determined that a gift certificate should be purchased with the profits from the Festival for the band that played at the Festival.
Welcome Wagon
The chair of the committee, Brita, mentioned that if you have any new neighbors, let her know so she can get out a welcome package. It was also discussed that in recruiting for advertising for the businesses, we could ask them to include something about their business for the Welcome Wagon.
