The Windom Community Council and Minneapolis Parks and Recreation are excited to bring Tots Rock back to the Windom neighborhood for our fourth year! On Saturday, March 27th, from 4-7, join us for a rockin’ good time. We’ll dance the afternoon away in the Windom South Community Center Gym (5843 Wentworth Ave. S.).
We have all seen the images coming out of Haiti – they are truly heartbreaking! The country’s infrastructure is slowly being rebuilt and food, water and medical supplies are starting to reach their destinations. The next order of business will be to relocate those who are living in the make-shift tent cities to other areas of the Country – before the spring rains and summer hurricanes. As the population moves from ‘survival’ mode into ‘sustaining’ mode they will need items to help ease the transition!
That’s where Sewers step-up!
Most of the survivors of the earthquake lost everything – literally everything! Most survived with only the clothes on their backs! As they move to the next phase how comforting would it be for them to receive a new shirt, a blanket, pants, skirt or even a tote bag to contain the few personal items they are able to obtain! If you don’t sew we still need your help! Come for a crash-course in sewing, or help with packing boxes and labeling them for shipment. I am also seeking donations of fabric and notions so dig out your stashes and bring in what you can! If you have a sewing machine bring it – if not you can use one of mine. I’ll have tables set up for both sewing and cutting! All items will be boxed and sent directly to Project Eden team members in Haiti (theprojecteden.org).
Team members are currently on the ground and they have indicated there is a need for everything! So, come for the day or come for a few hours – any time you can volunteer will be greatly appreciated!Please keep checking back as the dates get closer! From January 7-January 25, there have been thirteen residential burglaries where a door has been kicked in. All of the incidents have occurred while residents were away, most likely between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. The loss in these incidents includes jewelry, cash, laptop computers, and other small electronics. There is no suspect information available at this time.

A fair about Minneapolis schools was held at the Hyatt Hotel (1300 Nicollet Mall) on Saturday, January 9, 2010.
Attending the fair was an important first step in choosing the right school program for your child. While the Minneapolis school district has moved to a new attendance zone model, there are still many choice options available to families. At the event, you will be able to ask questions of principals and school staff from every PreK-8 program in the city.
Please note that school request cards are due by January 31, 2010.

With approximately 2,000 miles of sidewalks and many great places to walk, Minneapolis should be a great walking city all year-round. But sidewalks that are not cleared of snow can be unsafe, remaining icy and slippery all winter. As winter approaches, we know we have neighbors who will be faced with sidewalks that need clearing so they can get around.
