String of breakins in the area

From January 7-January 25, there have been thirteen residential burglaries where a door has been kicked in.  All of the incidents have occurred while residents were away, most likely between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.  The loss in these incidents includes jewelry, cash, laptop computers, and other small electronics.  There is no suspect information available at this time.

The following is a list of the blocks and date of these incidents:

  • Jan  7-55/Thomas
  • Jan  8-56/James and 56/Girard
  • Jan 11-58/Vincent
  • Jan 13-61/Newton
  • Jan 15-51/Abbott
  • Jan 16-53/Girard
  • Jan 19-100 block of West Diamond Lake Rd and two near 53/York
  • Jan 20-58/Morgan
  • Jan 21-48/Vincent
  • Jan 25-59/Newton

The Minneapolis police department is actively investigating these incidents, as well as dedicating additional patrol to the sector.

In order to maximize these efforts, we need your help.  If you notice any suspicious cars, people or activity in your neighborhood, please CALL 911.  Also, record the make, model and serial number of valuables and photograph jewelry and other items without serial numbers.

Remember please:

  1. Please pass this information on to your neighbors if they do not receive these emails. Tell your neighbors how to sign up for these alerts— they just link to http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/crimealert/signup.asp, click on their neighborhood on the map, and fill in the form.
  2. Please let your block club members know about these events.
  3. Be aware of your surroundings. Call 911 on any suspicious activity, persons, or vehicles.
  4. Watch for people on the street before exiting your home or vehicle.
  5. When you get into your car, lock your doors and do not just sit in the parked vehicle.
  6. Do not carry excessive cash, credit cards, or other items. Bring only what you need.
  7. Write down the numbers and contact information for all your credit/debit cards so you can call and cancel them immediately if they are taken or lost. Keep this information in a safe location.
  8. Get involved with (or start) your neighborhood Crime & Safety Committee.

  9. Know your Neighborhood Associations.

  10. If you have information on a crime please call the MPD Tips Line at (612) 692-8477.
  11. If you witness a crime, try to look for this information:
    1. People: Estimated height, weight, build, age, race, gender, distinguishing features, and clothing.
    2. Vehicle: License plate number, make, model, year, and color.
    3. People and vehicles: Time they came/left, and what direction they were last seen headed.
    4. Also note if a weapon is involved.
